Frequently Asked Questions
"When we dare to be powerful, to use our strength in the service of our vision, then it becomes less and less important whether we are afraid." -Audre Lorde
FAQ:
What are your rates?
Initial Assessment (60 minutes) – $175
Individual Session (53 minutes) – $160
Do you accept insurance?
I accept the following insurance:
Aetna
BlueCross and BlueShield of North Carolina (BCBS NC): All PPO plans, Blue Value, and Blue Care
I am in the process of accepting the following:
Cigna/Evernorth
Please remember that if you choose to use insurance benefits, I will be required to assign you a mental health diagnosis code. It is important for you to know that, when a diagnosis code is submitted to the insurance company, it does become part of your health care record.
If I am out-of-network for your plan, you may still have benefits through reimbursement, and I can offer a superbill for services rendered. A superbill is not available for sliding scale clients.
How do I determine insurance benefits?
I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to assess benefits:
Call Customer Service and ask about in-network and out-of-network mental health benefits. Ask what your individual deductible is, how much is met, if the deductible applies for mental health benefits, what the copayment or coinsurance is, and whether telehealth is a covered service.
Do you offer sliding scale?
Yes, reduced fees are available on a limited basis. When you reach out, ask me about sliding scale slot availability.
What is your cancellation policy?
A late cancellation is considered less than 24 hours advance notice. The first time this occurs, no fee is incurred. After that, my late cancellation fee is $75. I try to be as flexible as possible to prevent therapy from becoming a financial burden- so many things can happen that lead to cancellation! At the same time, this policy helps ensure that we are both maintaining a commitment to our work together.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Through Sessions Health I can accept credit / debit cards and HSA / FSA accounts.
I also accept vouchers from the Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund.
Are you in person or remote?
I provide therapy in person at my Durham office, as well as telehealth services. Telehealth clients must be physically located in North Carolina.
What happens after I contact you?
I will reach out, typically within 2 business days, to confirm schedule availability, the type of support you are seeking, and insurance information if applicable. We can then schedule a phone consultation (a free 15 minute phone call to assess mutual fit), or start the intake process.
What happens at the first session?
Bring whatever you need to support you (drinks, snacks, notebooks, comfort items, fidget toys, et cetera). Please have your intake paperwork filled out before you arrive, ideally the day prior in case there is anything I need to follow up with you about. You can make yourself comfortable in the waiting room, and at our appointment time I will come out and invite you into my office for our session.
See My Approach page for more information about what sessions might look like.
